Whiteface!

well the time has come to get up to the longest DH'ing in the east up at Whiteface Mtn in the Lake Placid area of New York. We will be at Elevate Cycles on Friday PM doing a demo and then over to the hill for a couple days of riding and racing.
great training for this years Peru Megavalanche! the DH course at Whiteface will have pro winning times around 8 minutes! alright, not quite the 2 30 minute runs in Peru but long enough!
if you haven't been up there yet, this may be the weekend!

Yesterday we had a local invite Jam and bbq.. with about 20ish riders.. I 
won with a 360 to flip to downside footplant on the wall.. i won a free 
burger!!! here's some pics from the event.

I also just found out I can get on the invite list for claw works in 
september.. so I'm pretty stoked on that!

too much fun

Ya got to be sick of it. Too much, way over the top.. This past weekend at Jiminy was awsome. the little splash of rain we received friday left the conditions perfect. Slippery for sure, but that keeps things interesting. I went out by myself for the first run. Nice and easy.

My second run was a total blast. Riding way over my head and for the second time down the mountain way too stupid fast for me. I am sure those guys were trying to kill me. I followed a guy on a new giant. the guy rode some pretty innovative lines. I was keeping up pretty well till.. well you know the story.. lost concentration, then the front end. No harm, no foul.

My next two runs were on a slower but way more tech with some 'nam locals. The pace was a bit slower but the level of tech multiplied by four. My glasses started fogging up and I think I lost 5 lbs struggling to dog paddle when I unclipped on slippery uphill roots.. guess the guys I was riding with missed them somehow.. We stopped and sessioned a drop. It was fun.

I ended up dropping off that group to de-fog and doing another solo, msuch slower but I jumped and pumped everything and really felt good.. a few more runs with the kids and I needed a nap.

Stopped at Michaels greek resturant for a great meal.. now.. .Monday morning.. I just feel so damn good..

Here's a road trip story from Jackie Baker!

. I'm back from a hectic road trip. Went to Downieville, then straight to MT for a wedding, then to SLC for 2 days, then to Snowmass.

Whilel in MT, Dain, the groom--Joe, and I went to Big Sky to check out the DH trails there. I had both the DNA and the R9 on the car since I'm in full travel mode. This crazy-looking dude rode up on a Splinter to ask about the bikes on the car. It was Dan Diaz. He was riding lifts for the first time. It was kinda crazy to randomly meet him, especially after running into Zeph at Downieville. Sinister's everywhere!

In SLC I rode with my friend Re who's a ski photographer. We went to Alta and the wildflowers were going off. I rode the DNA since we had to push up most of the trail anyway. She got some sweet photos, so hopefully something shows up in print next year.

The Snowmass DS course was awesome. It was the techiest course I've been on yet. I made it to the final, but ended up 4th. I was hoping for a little better, but got a bit squirrly at the end. Nonetheless, I took 3rd for the overall NORBA Series in All-Women's Expert MX/DS.

In DH, I was so gunning for the win. The top of the course was super fast and brake-bumpy. The R9 was riding like butter. I've never ridden a course where you could just let go, and it was so fun! There were two little tricky sections, but the whole thing was super fast. It got really dusty by Saturday morning's pro practice. Our race was at 4pm and it started downpouring at about 2:30. My practice run was crazy. It wasn't muddy yet, but the wet dirt on top was flying everywhere and sticking to everything. Luckily I brought extra goggles, but had no fender, no mud tires, and probably should have been on flat pedals. Anywho, I gunned it out of the gate on my race run and realized I was riding way to fast for the conditions. About 5 crashes and several drifting close calls later I was 4th. Although it wasn't the race I wanted, I certainly learned a lot about being prepared for anything. That put me 8th overall in the DH Expert Women's 19-29 Series.

Dain and I were hoping to got to the MSC race in Keystone, CO over Labor Day, but it's way too expensive/complex to get there without driving. It looks like we'll be hitting some local CA races through September and then I'll be at Interbike representing my JayBay team. I'm going to apply for my pro license soon--although I didn't get quite the season I'd imagined, I did podium every race and I'm stoked to take my skills farther.

It's unusual for me to allow people to set my mood on the wrong path. I reserve that right for myself. I got a little set off yesterday during dinner. Lanie and I hadn't seen much of each other for several days and I thought it would be nice to take her to dinner at the local tavern. They have  seperate bar and meal areas so it's nice and quiet. Hey, I use machines all day and after subjecting myself to the constant drone of a TIG welding macine I like a little quiet.

It was not to be. Our friendly hostess seated us between two couples. I am pretty good with eastern US accents and I would have to place these folks from Long Island. I used to get my painting done on "strong island" and enjoy going there. Know plenty of folks from LI also. These people must have been from a part of town I had never been. The part where everyone in the room gives a flying %&(#$@ where you go when you stay on the vinyard (it wasn't Daves fold out, where I would likely stay) or the block that counts blisters on your feet while you "shop till you drop" on Fifth avanue. Must be in the zip code where they yell across a whole room, their cholesterol count.

I almost lost it. Hey, we got some miles in on the new proto. It's sick..lets talk soon.. F

Sinister hits Whaleback!

Sat August 5th marked the second consecutive week that there were Sinister Jump Jams! The guys are going out and throwing down, this time in front of a rock concert featuring 11 local bands, called "Rock the Whale"!  The event was put on by our friends at Whaleback mountain(www.whaleback.com)which is a ski, board, skate, inline, bike training facility run by former Olympic freestyle skiier, Evan Dybig and his amazing crew  Dylan and Miles. Check this place out if you need a place to rip year around!
Some of the usual crew were there of course like Derek Stevens, Clint Mcmahon, Sasha "Yak Attack", Zach Faulkner and Scott Moody while there were a couple new guys helping out the cause from Cape Cod, Chip Morash and Ragin Rocco. To show we are really all about the love, we let those guys rail the jumps despite them riding 2 of our competitors bikes! Anyway, there were lots of mullets, girls in bikinis and plenty of good people watching as everyone seemed to take a step back in time to about 1991 and come and and RAWK!   The crew jumped 3 times  during the event, during set breaks and once again, I acted as MC. Sasha "Yak Attack" says he laughs every time he hears me call out his name, just like I'm announcing a WWF wrestler!

Everyone was going off and pushing their limits and once again, Derek Stevens took a beating despite landing some of the sickest tricks of the jam. Final injury tally after the weekend for old DS....a broken nose, hairline fracture of his ankle and sprained wrist! And he was ripping around the sweet NBL BMX track doing 1 legged races! the kid is a warrior both on bikes and even more so(in his words)on a snowboard! 
A killer time was had by all...i'm truly proud of the whole crew who stepped up again and threw down for the love!

Ya, I know I spelled "bearing" wrong. At least you think. It's a play on words. Bearings, suspension, you get it. The reason I am in such a jovial mood is the G3 version of our VST suspension bike is running. It hauls ass. I still am overdamped and oversprung a but you certainly can feel where this thing is going. I am going to bring it to Mt Snow this weekend. You can ride it.

I am really stoked on the way this season has been going. I am happy with the progress of the bikes. People from all over are checkin' in to see whats up. A guy is Slovakia is riding an R9. It's a big deal to me. All our customers are a big deal to me. I hope that feeling never goes away.

oh my god! what the hell happened down in Lanesboro Mass? Like tons of people gettin' together in a big field there guy and like, riding bikes there guy, so what?!  it was so much more than that this year and we had our most fun event to date with something for everyone. big jumps with huge crashes, cross-dressing, lots of tequila and PBR's, downhilling, music, and the greatest group of juevenile delinquents  ever assembled to make it all work!  we hosted the Sinister Bikes jump jams throughout the weekend which featured sick riders like Dane Berke, Clint Mcmahon, Sasha "Yak Attack",  Knight Ide, Derek Stevens and others who made it the cool place to be all weekend!  meanwhile up on the hill, our resident DH superstars  were up to the task of making people ride their bikes faster. People were holding down the pits and keeping tabs on our massive amounts of t-shirt sales as they were flyin' out the door.  cameras were flashing and videos were recording every morsel of precious moments, leaving out nary a gory detail. And someone named Chris kept everyone guessing?
FTW was on hand proudly displaying his new invention which will soon be shredding dirt like razor sharp scalpel through warm flesh. if you were there, you'll have stories to tell if you weren't then the legend will be passed down to you and others through the generations.

so lucky to have so much riding and talent around. Sinister production guru, Rob Westover
has a habit of taking out the local groms so they can shred the crap out of the local stuff and this night was no exception. along for the ride was Sinister intern, Wes

hat, hat, hat.

a little hot huh?  argh.. it's tough welding on a day like this.. I managed about seven hours at the table and  went home and took a nap.. my gloves were soaked with sweat and I was getting shocked.

We got soaked this weekend as well as shocked. And one guy took a nap after poaching the jump jam. I think his 150mm stem got him right in the kisser. He had enough dirt packed in his nostrils to build a small chateau.

We received the soaking when a brief and sudden storm blew through. Were shocked by the huge friggin air that we witnessed. I know you saw the photos.. retadded! 

I ended up in a river today trying to cool off. Buddy is outside the office door resting on the grass and sniffing the air..he knows whats up. Buddy is my dog, a yellow lab. Will Floyd lose his victory after he visits the lab? these guys wouldn't have problems if they just wouldn't piss. That wouldn't work for Buddy.  More welding tomorrow. No matter how hot it is.
