Sinister Bikes is a rider owned company that is proud of our work, our product, our staff and position in the world. Our staff is made up of highly skilled individuals who are dedicated to our company, customers and product. It has always been our philosophy to present what we are and to be honest to the riders, the sponsors and any one else who has lent us their support. It may not be the industry norm to be up front in this manner, but we want you to know the truth and feel it is very importance to keep our supporters informed.
The purchase of Sinister Bikes by Freeride Endeavors this year has been a positive experience for everyone involved. The merging of Frank “The Welder” Wadelton’s 30 years of bike building and design experience with the talented team of Bruce Linehan and Skye Nacel has helped to streamline the company mission and has opened the door to a whole new realm of possibilities. FTW has moved into a new facility and has continued to produce and design the bikes that are continually praised throughout the industry. All of this progress was made because of a committed group of individuals, riders and community all working together to make it happen. This success has always been driven by the hard work of everyone involved and we would like to thank you all.
The decision making process at Sinister Bikes and Freeride Endeavors involves many variables within and outside the company “walls”. We continually ask ourselves, is the decision based soundly in what we believe, will this decisions help to progress the company forward, will it help to create less of an impact on the environment and is it in agreement with the core philosophies of the company? It is well known by us and many others that decisions based solely on profit are bad ones. However, making profit allows a company to have the freedom to do what they want and here at Sinister Bikes and Freeride Endeavors we feel we can contribute so much more.
So how can we attain that freedom? By doing what we do best. Making and designing great bicycles! One clear fact that came out of our cross-country promotional tour back in 2006 is that PEOPLE WANT SINISTER BIKES. The demand has been increasing every year and we feel it will continue to grow. But, the fact of the matter is although he is the best at what he does; FTW can only do so much alone. FTW designs and has designs in his mind that will continue to revolutionize the biking world, but lacks the time to build them because of the fleet of precision bikes he welds day to day. The pride that comes with hand building bikes is great, but so is the time and commitment.
The demand we are experiencing and the benefit attainable by meeting that demand has led us into a partnership with another manufacturer for the production of a new Sinister design. The ability to outsource the manufacturing of this new bike will allow it to be more inexpensive than our past full suspension trail bikes, but still be of the highest quality. Believe us “of the highest quality” is a statement we do not take lightly so we would like to explain why we truly believe this.
The search for a company that could live up to our high quality production standards was extensive. Selecting a company that mass -produced poor quality bikes or one that had a catalog of “designs” to choose from was obviously not an option for us. We demanded quality and would not sacrifice pride. Ultimately, we agreed to have a top notch Canadian company hand-weld us some prototype bikes. The goal of this was to put these bikes in the hands of our team riders to see what they really thought and if this could be an option for us. This company has amazing quality control, testing and manufacturing methods, impeccable company values and environmental consciousness. They have been at the forefront of bicycle testing and design for many years and they stand behind their designs with a Lifetime Warranty. If testing goes well, we will order quantities of these and begin selling these design worldwide in late 2007, early 2008.
We did not take this new project lightly to say the least. We would never move forward without being totally confident with anyone who builds bikes for us. Quality is always our first priority and this is what we have built our reputation on. We hope that people will respond well to our new project and we appreciate that some may initially question the decision. We encourage people to trust us and know that we will continue to innovate and bring you high quality while increasing our production numbers.
However, we feel that those that are familiar with our ethic will realize that this means great things for Sinister Bikes. For example, we can expand our own production capabilities under the talented eye of FTW, and Freeride Endeavors can push Sinister Bikes to become more involved in the events across the country, increase the support given to our extremely talented base of factory and satellite teams, and we can set environmental goals for the company such as striving to become a member of the 1% for the Planet by 2008 among others. Don’t think we’re turning all hippy on you, but we all must realize how important it is to protect our resources and natural playgrounds.
The bottom line is that FTW will still be doing what he loves, building bikes. The handcrafted Sinister Bike is not going away by any stretch of the imagination, but we are taking on this new endeavor so we can continue to bring you quality, innovation and our ultimate commitment to developing great bikes.
